Take The Elevator

Take The Elevator

Something occurred to me today:
I’ve been posting at the Hotel Yorba for a few days and there’s not a single entry so far about the titular tune!
So, in lieu of any news right now, I offer the memorable lyrics to “Hotel Yorba” (track deux on the album White Blood Cells.)
I was watchin’
with one eye on the other side.
I had fifteen people telling me to move.
I got moving on my mind.
I found shelter
in some thoughts turnin’ wheels around.
I said thirty-nine times that I love you
to the beauty I had found.
Well, it’s…
one, two, three, four,
take the elevator
at the Hotel Yorba.

Bowling Downtown at the Red Door

Bowling Downtown at the Red Door

Another queer spot for a gig on the Stripes’ North American tour. Last Sunday, Jack and Meg performed a short set at the Eastview Bowling Alley in Saskatoon. Check out the video below for “Let’s Build a Home” and Jack’s bowling chops!

Rock ‘n’ Roll Transit

Rock ‘n’ Roll Transit

The Stripes are looking to liven up their North American tour with a few shows in some strange locations.
On July 2nd, Jack and Meg played for a small group of fans onboard a bus in the city of Winnipeg. The set was acoustic, naturally, with such songs as “Hotel Yorba” and “Wheels on the Bus,” a children’s classic, making an appearance.
This isn’t the first unconventional show during their 2007 tour. The sites of previous performances include a classroom in Barnaby, British Columbia, London’s Royal Hospital and even “Icky Thump Records,” a Tower Records renamed for a day in Los Angeles.

Sister, Do You Know My Name?

Sister, Do You Know My Name?

Looks like rumors about our own Mr. White acting in the parody biopic Walk Hard are absolutely true.
A John C. Reilly vehicle co-written by Judd Apatow (Knocked Up, The 40 Year Old Virgin), Walk Hard will feature Jack as the King himself, Elvis Presley.
But we Yorbites know this isn’t his first foray into the acting world. He appeared as Georgia in Cold Mountain and did a vignette with Meg about a Tesla coil in Jim Jarmusch’s Coffee & Cigarettes.
Here’s how the role came about, in Jack’s own words:
John C. Reilly called me up and asked if I would do it. …read more

Celebrate Good Times!

Celebrate Good Times!

Pop the cork on that champagne! The Billboard charts for the week of June 27th have Icky Thump debuting at #2! Even this early, it’s already the Stripes’ best-selling debut.
But there’s a problem, Yorbites. Guess who took #1.
Bon Jovi. Yes, hair-metal-to-country-and-western Bon Jovi, with their Lost Highway.
We can do better for Jack and Meg, right? Right! So, here’s the plan: buy two copies of Icky Thump! One for playing and one for posterity. We can’t change the debut stats, but we can certainly outsell Jon and Ritchie!

Can’t You Hear? They’re Selling “Rag and Bone!”

Can’t You Hear? They’re Selling “Rag and Bone!”

I’ve got good news and bad news, Yorbites.
Good news is that this “gatefold” red, special edition 7″ vinyl with “Rag and Bone” on the A-side is included free in an issue of NME.
The bad news? That issue’s from the week of June 5th and, no, you can’t buy a copy from the NME webstore. Trust me. I checked.
However (and a big however), you know that just about all matter in the universe is sold on eBay and there will be people who, for some inexplicable reason, want to part with that record. Click here to find them. Good luck …read more

You’re Pretty Good Looking (For A Drive)

In the future, everything will be powered by wireless electricity. Your car will drive itself, speak to you intelligently about a number of topics, and may or may not appreciate you calling it “Kitt.” Touch-screens will be integrated into every household item, including milk cartons. And, of course, Jack and Meg White will store 512 MB of data.
Wait. What?
The future is now! Introducing these two stylish, limited-edition USB thumb drives. Sure, only 3,333 of each will be made and they do cost a pretty penny (one for $57.50, both for a slightly discounted $99), but look at all the …read more
